 1:26, On educating children

Be that as it may; I mean that whatever these futilities of mine may be, I have no intention of hiding them, any more than I would a bald and grizzled portrait of myself just because the artist had painted not a perfect face but my own. Anyway these are my humours, my opinions: I give them as things which I believe, not as things to be believed. My aim is to reveal my own self, which may well be different tomorrow if I am initiated into some new business which changes me.

 

Quoy qu’il en soit, veux-je dire, et quelles que soyent ces inepties, je n’ay pas deliberé de les cacher, non plus qu’un mien pourtraict chauve et grisonnant, où le peintre auroit mis, non un visage parfaict, mais le mien. Car aussi ce sont ici mes humeurs et opinions ; je les donne pour ce qui est en ma creance, non pour ce qui est à croire. Je ne vise icy qu’à découvrir moy mesmes, qui seray par adventure autre demain, si nouveau apprentissage me change.

 

I have no other aim but to disclose myself. However inconsiderable these essays of myself may be, I will not conceal them any more than my old bald pate, where the painter has set before you not a perfect face, but my own. And tomorrow I shall perhaps have another self, if by chance a new lessen will change me.

გუშინდელ ფილმში მონეტენის ამ ფრაზამ მიიქცია ჩემი ყურადღება. მე ამ ბლოგზე ვთვი, რომ ჩემს აზრებს არ წავშლიდი ან არ შევცვლიდი დროის გასვლის შემდეგ თუ აზრი შემეცვლებოდა. რადგან თუ რაღაც სიმაღლეზე ვიდექი, მე აღმოვაჩენდი, რომ აი ამ სიმაღლეზე ვიდექი. ხოლო თუ ჩემი აზრები მდარე იყო, მე აღმოვაჩენდი, რომ აი, ასეთი მდარე აზრები მქონდა და აქამდე მოვაღწიე. ერთი სიტყვით ეს იქნებოდა ჩემი პორტრეტი რაღაც დროში. ხოლო, მარსელ პრუსტი რას ამბობს რა არის ჩემი წიგნიო? ნახატიო. ხოდა აგრეთვე მე რა ვთქვი? მე ვთქვი რომ ეს წიგნი არის მსოფლხედვა და ნახატი. ავტორისეული. არა ობიექტური, არამედ ამა და ამ ავტორის პერსპექტივა.
